MILWAUKEE – A Milwaukee man is accused of fatally shooting his 8-year-old daughter on Saturday, authorities said.
Michael Huddleston, 47, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the death of Tiana Huddleston, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office has also charged Huddleston with the use of a dangerous weapon and possession of a firearm by a felon, the newspaper reported.
If convicted of the charges, Michael Huddleston faces up to 70 years in prison, according to the Journal-Sentinel.
According to a criminal complaint, Michael Huddleston told authorities his daughter was in the wrong place at the wrong time when his .22 caliber gun accidentally discharged, according to The Associated Press.
In the complaint, Michael Huddleston told police that the gun’s safety lock was on and there was no round loaded into the firearm, WITI-TV reported. The Milwaukee resident allegedly told investigators he accidentally pulled the trigger while “showing off” for a group of children, including his daughter.
The complaint states Tiana died from a single gunshot wound to her torso, WTMJ-TV reported.
Huddleston later told detectives he drank two pints of tequila and he wanted to teach the kids a lesson in gun safety, the AP reported.
According to the complaint, Michael Huddleston told police that he “shouldn’t have tried to do no extra in front of the kids” and “I did it … I didn’t try to, big mistake.”

The girl’s 18-year-old brother called 911 to report the shooting and that Michael Huddleston was on the way to the hospital with her, the Journal-Sentinel reported.
According to the complaint, Michael Huddleston repeatedly said, “Just take me to jail. I did it. I did it.”
