MISHAWAKA, Ind. – No matter how you do the math, this Indiana teen is perfect.
Felix Zhang, a junior at Penn High School in Mishawaka, achieved a perfect score on the Advanced Placement calculus AB exam issued by the College Board — the only student in the world to do so, WTHR-TV reported.
Zhang answered all 108 questions correctly. While some of the questions were multiple choice, Zhang told WNDU-TV that he only had to change one answer while double-checking his work.
“It was pretty surprising because like, going into the test, I wasn’t really expecting like anything and obviously I wanted to do well on it, and I prepared a lot but I never thought about getting a perfect score before so, that was a nice surprise,” Zhang told the television station.
According to the Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, approximately 270,000 students worldwide took the AP exam, WTHR reported. While 20% of the test-takers received a perfect “5″ rating on the test, Zhang had the only perfect score, according to the television station.
Math is a big subject in Zhang’s home. His mother teaches the subject at Indiana University South Bend, while his father teaches it at the University of Notre Dame, WNDU reported.
