According to The Associated Press and WABC-TV, the 31-year-old, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, was jailed Monday after U.S. Magistrate Judge Steven Locke revoked the rapper’s bond in a pending drug conspiracy case.
In an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in eastern New York, prosecutors argued that Maxwell, who was released on $500,000 bond following his October 2021 arrest on a charge of conspiracy to distribute and possess controlled substances, “did knowingly violate the conditions of his release” during a Dec. 11 video call with an unidentified man referred to as John Doe.
“During this video, the defendant is shown holding a gun and pointing it towards John Doe,” the affidavit said. “The defendant then says to John Doe, ‘Imma kill you and everybody you with,’ which he then repeats one more time.”
The affidavit argued that the video demonstrates “probable cause” that Maxwell “possessed a firearm and intentionally placed another person in reasonable fear of physical injury by displaying a firearm, in violation of state law” and the court’s orders.
Attorneys for Maxwell, who pleaded not guilty to the drug charge, did not immediately respond to the AP’s calls seeking comment, the news agency reported.
